Hate

Hate is a tangible shadow
It’s dark tendrils suffocate your silhouette
And drag you down to pitch black.
Your hands outstretched to grab hold of something,
Your eyes wide with fear of what’s inside
And mouth agape screaming into a vacuum.

Hate is a forest fire,
Your lost, running aimlessly
Ears deaf from roaring flames and the cracks of falling trees
And as you try to catch your breath
Contempt’s smoke fills your lungs,
And you sputter, struggling to keep your eyes open,
As heat blasts your face.

Hate is a blizzard
Yet standing in the middle
The frigid cold cannot overcome
The heat rising in your chest
Giving feeling to your numb heart
And melting the frozen tears on your cheek

Feel it
Your hands clench
Your body gets tense
Your eyes squint
Your vision gets narrow
Profanities rise in your throat

But what’s worse?
To feel the hatred
Or to not feel at all?
